Arief got his master's degree in International Public Policy and Management (MPPM) from the University of Southern California (USC) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) from IPMI Jakarta. His bachelor degree is in City and Regional Planning from Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB).
Arief is a program manager for the RISE (Research on Improving System of Education) Programme in Indonesia. His responsibilities include all aspects of program management from program design and planning, procurement, contract management, program disbursement and monitoring, and reporting. He leads the communication with RISE Directorate in program management as well as with RISE partners including AIGHD and Mathematica. He also manages staff responsible for program implementation, communications, as well as editing and publications.
Prior to joining SMERU, Arief was a Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist at Millennium Challenge Account (MCA) Indonesia for Green Prosperity Project. He also has experience as a Unit Manager for Social Development at AusAID that delivered support among other to National Program for Community Empowerment (PNPM) and Poverty Reduction Support Facility (PRSF) under TNP2K.
In 2000, Arief received Capacity Building for Urban Infrastructure award to pursue his master's degree in international public policy and management at the University of Southern California (USC) funded by Asian Development Bank. He was also awarded a scholarship by JICA to represent Indonesian Government in City and Regional Development Course in 2005. In addition, he was appointed by Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to represent the Indonesian Government in Regional Development Conference in 2008.
