SMERU is presently seeking to strengthen and expand its research capacity by recruiting suitably qualified staff holding Indonesian citizenship for the following positions:

  1. Senior Quantitative Researcher
  2. Quantitative Researcher
  3. Junior Quantitative Researcher

1. Senior Quantitative Researcher

Required qualifications:

  • Hold a doctorate (S3) with at least five years of research experience or a Master’s (S2) degree with at least seven years of research experience in the fields of economics, statistics, mathematics, development studies, or relevant social studies;
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in designing, managing, and conducting quantitative socioeconomic research, policy analyses, as well as the monitoring and evaluation of development policies/programs, preferably related to poverty, education, health, labor, or children;
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in sampling and quantitative analysis;
  • Expertise in managing and using large data sets, especially Indonesian national data sets;
  • Advanced knowledge and skills in using quantitative computer programs for socioeconomic research, in particular STATA;
  • Outstanding ability in writing research reports/documents;
  • Good communication and presentation skills;
  • Ability to coordinate and work in a team;
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision; and
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Bahasa Indonesia.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Advise and/or lead in the development of research designs and projects;
  • Lead and/or participate in the collection of primary data and be involved in fieldworks as required;
  • Carry out data and information analyses;
  • Interpret results of the analyses;
  • Write research reports based on the data analysis results and interpretation;
  • Review draft research reports;
  • Assume responsibility for research results;
  • Write policy briefs, articles, and other types of publications;
  • Submit concise and accurate reports, articles, or other types of publications to national and international bodies or journals in a timely manner;
  • Oversee the work of other researchers, edit their reports and other materials, as well as assist and advise them on research missions;
  • Present or assist others in presenting research results within SMERU and to external forums;
  • Assist in organizing and managing data owned by SMERU;
  • Provide training to internal and external audiences;
  • Attend seminars, workshops, meetings, and training courses;
  • Assist the SMERU management in securing research projects and communicating with funding agencies; and
  • Conduct other tasks as required.

 

2. Quantitative Researcher

Required qualifications:

  • A Master's degree (S2) in economics, statistics, mathematics, development studies, or a relevant social science discipline;
  • At least two years of experience in conducting quantitative socioeconomic research, preferably related to poverty education, health, labor, or children;
  • Familiarity in managing and using large data sets, especially Indonesian national data sets;
  • Familiarity in using quantitative computer programs for socioeconomic research, in particular STATA;
  • Outstanding ability in writing research reports/documents;
  • Good communication and interview skills;
  • Ability to coordinate and work in a team;
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision; and
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Bahasa Indonesia.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Develop research designs;
  • Collect primary data and be involved in fieldworks as required;
  • Carry out data and information analyses;
  • Interpret results of the analyses;
  • Write research reports and other types of publications, including policy briefs, journal articles, and conference papers, based on the data analysis results and interpretation;
  • Assume responsibility for research results;
  • Present research results within SMERU and to external forums;
  • Organize and manage data owned by SMERU;
  • Attend seminars, workshops, meetings, and training courses as directed; and
  • Conduct other tasks as required.

 

3. Junior Quantitative Researcher

Required qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (S1) in economics, agriculture economics, statistics, mathematics, or a relevant social science discipline;
  • A strong interest in conducting quantitative socioeconomic research;
  • Some experience in data collection and field survey;
  • Familiarity in using STATA for socioeconomic research;
  • Familiarity in managing and using large data sets, especially Indonesian national data sets;
  • Good communication and interview skills;
  • Ability to write reports;
  • Ability to coordinate and work in a team;
  • Ability to multitask and work under tight deadlines with minimal supervision; and
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English is preferable.

 

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Collect primary data and be involved in fieldworks;
  • Conduct data entry;
  • Assist in organizing and managing data owned by SMERU;
  • Carry out data analyses;
  • Assist in the writing of research reports and other types of publications, including policy briefs, journal articles, and conference papers, based on the data analysis results and interpretation;
  • Attend seminars, workshops, meetings, and training courses; and
  • Conduct other tasks as required.
