In September 2015, The SMERU Research Institute ranked 1st on a list of the top 25% institutions in Indonesia, according to the IDEAS Rankings, confirming SMERU's position among the top three research institutes for three consecutive years. The other institutions that are acknowledged as the top 5 on the list, beside SMERU, are the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Indonesia; Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA); the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Padjadjaran; and Jakarta Office, World Bank.

In general, SMERU researchers have made improvements in their rankings from the previous period. Sudarno Sumarto has successfully climbed into 2nd place, followed by Asep Suryahadi in the 3rd position. Meanwhile, Daniel Suryadarma has moved to 6th position and and this made him as the third SMERU researcher entering the top 10 ranking. Meanwhile, Athia Yumna made it into the top 30 (ranked 29th), having climbed 14 positions from the previous ranking.

These results have given us a new spirit to improve our work in publishing and reporting our research findings on various socioeconomic and poverty issues considered most urgent and relevant for the people of Indonesia.
