Women and Digitisation: Promises and Challenges of Internet Use in the Indonesian Labour Market

Over the past 20 years, gender relations and the expression of power and authority between men and women in Indonesia have been shaped by the forces of reformasi, decentralisation, a reassertion of central power, and economic transitions. These changes have given rise to policy reform, an increase in women’s political representation, and new expressions of diverse gender identities. But to what extent has the 'gender order' of the New Order, where women’s role as a mother was the basis of citizenship, been challenged or just found new articulations?

Progress and Stagnation in the Livelihood of Informal Workers in an Emerging Economy Long-term Evidence from Indonesia

In this study, we use a rich household longitudinal data set from Indonesia that spans 19 years, from 1996 to 2014, to examine the livelihood of informal workers. Understanding Metropolitan Poverty: The Profile of Poverty in Jabodetabek

This book presents twelve original chapters divided into three parts that discuss the achievements and challenges of Indonesia’s transformation since the fall of Suharto’s authoritarian regime in 1998. The fundamental transformation from an authoritarian to a democratic system is analyzed by researchers, experts, and NGO officials from various academic disciplines and from Asia at large (Japan, Korea, and Indonesia).

Bringing Think Tanks Closer to Policymakers for Evidence-Informed Policymaking

This chapter explores the approaches used by think tanks in Indonesia to produce research that can influence policy decisions. It focuses on the dynamics of interaction between think tanks and other policy actors in ensuring the uptake and use of this research. It will look at the nature of relationships between the actors and the institutional and political factors that might constrain or enhance evidence-based policymaking.

Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion in Practice: Research and Advocacy Experience of Knowledge Sector Initiative Partners

GEDSI (Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion) Lessons Learned Document presents GEDSI knowledge from KSI partners and other organisations who are champions in mainstreaming GEDSI in their research and advocacy. This book aims to enrich the knowledge-to-policy (K2P) process with perspectives from marginalised communities and to provide advice on how to involve these communities throughout the process. Part of this is how to make fieldwork accessible to people facing challenges arising from disability or gender-based discrimination.
