On 25 July 2018, The SMERU Research Institute organized a book launch and seminar titled “Employment and Re-Industrialization in Indonesia”. The book is written by Dr. Zulfan Tadjoeddin (Senior Lecturer, Western Sydney University) and Prof. Anis Chowdhury (Adjunct Professor, Dean's Unit School of Social Sciences & Psychology).

The event started with a keynote speech by Deputy Minister of National Development Planning for Economics, Dr. Ir. Leonard VH. Tampubolon, MA, who spoke on various trends and challenges in the labor sector in Indonesia. After that, Dr. Zulfan Tadjoeddin and Prof. Anis Chowdhury gave a presentation on the findings of the study in their book.

The seminar continued with responses from the discussants, namely Prof. Dr. Armida S. Alisjahbana (Director of the SGDs Center, Padjajaran University), Kazutoshi Chatani (Employement Specialist, ILO), and Essam Alqararah (UNIDO Representative in Indonesia & Timor-Leste).
