Unpaid Care Work in Indonesia: Why Should We Care?

Tuesday, October 24, 2017

Unpaid care work which is commonly performed by women have not yet been recognized as production activities. Meanwhile, care work often limits women from having equal working opportunities as men and creates multiple burdens for women that potentially reduce the quality of care they provide. Although unpaid care work has been included in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)–Goal 5 on gender equality–it has not been well addressed in Indonesia’s development policy due to limited data and studies on the issue. This study seeks to understand the situation of unpaid care work in Indonesia necessary for the formulation of better care-related policies.
