Focus Group Discussion on Strengthening the Role of Research Institutions and Nongovernmental Organizations in Advocating Evidence-Based Policies

Tuesday, March 16, 2021

One of the efforts to improve The SMERU Research Institute’s real contribution in policy formulation is disseminating information and collaborating with other parties, either with other research institutions or with stakeholders, including nongovernmental organizations (NGO), which utilize its research findings.

NGOs can take benefit from the relevant research findings, either to support their work in providing social services and assisting the people or for advocating and revising policies. Thus, the third series of discussion to commemorate the 20th anniversary of The SMERU Research Institute chose the theme “Strengthening the Role of Research Institutions and NGOs in Advocating Evidence-Based Policies”.  The discussion aimed at facilitating dialogues between NGO representatives to analyze challenges and opportunities in building collaboration between research institutions and NGOs on advocating evidence-based policies.

Specifically, the third series of discussion aimed at (i) analyzing challenges related to NGOs’ access to data and information on research findings and (ii) bridging the communication between research institutions and NGOs in making the most of research findings to advocate policies.
