Workshop on the Protection for Children Left by Their Migrant Worker Parents

On 15 December 2015, The SMERU Research Institute, in collaboration with Bappenas and UNICEF, organized the “Workshop on the Protection for Children Left by Their Migrant Worker Parents” at Hotel Santika Premiere Hayam Wuruk, Jakarta.

The objective of the workshop was to facilitate a policy discussion on holistic protection for children left by their parents, especially mothers, who work as migrant workers. The workshop specifically discussed:

  1. various studies on the separation of children from their parents who work as migrant workers and the impact on the children’s well-being; and
  2. various issues experienced by the government and nongovernment institutions in providing supports to minimize the bad impacts suffered by children left by their migrant worker parents.
