FKP 2022: Accelerating Postpandemic Recovery through an Inclusive Digital Transformation

24 September 2022

The digital transformation plays a critical role in addressing numerous development issues, including the impacts of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The COVID-19 pandemic, which has lasted for more than two years, is also a momentum for Indonesia to get things right and ensure that the digital transformation runs smoothly and gives as much benefit as possible to all, including the poor and vulnerable. It is important to immediately implement the digital transformation since digital technology has been found significantly effective to mitigate the pandemic impacts in several sectors, such as by supporting people to do their jobs online and promoting digitalization of businesses (e-commerce).

However, the COVID-19 pandemic also shows the obvious importance of bridging the digital gaps between individuals/households, workers/employers, governmental organizations, and private companies. Based on the National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas) and National Work Force Survey (Sakernas) 2021, around 36% of individuals aged 5 years old or older still have not accessed the internet and 64% of workers/employers aged 15 years have not used the internet in their main jobs. This is worsened by the low digitalization in public and private sectors. According to World Bank’s Digital Adoption Index 2016, Indonesia was ranked fifth among Southeast Asian countries for the public subindex and seventh for the business subindex.

Therefore, any chance to promote a more inclusive digital transformation needs to be optimized to accelerate the postpandemic recovery in Indonesia. In its attempt to escalate the importance of promoting a more inclusive digital transformation, The SMERU Research Institute will organize the Forum Kajian Pembangunan (FKP) seminar series.

This FKP seminar organized by The SMERU Research Institute consists of 4 series of forum as follows:
