Wednesday, August 7, 2024

The High Tech-High Touch (HTHT) Implementation is a pilot project in mathematics education for junior secondary schools. Led by the Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI), this collaborative effort brings together the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Tanoto Foundation, The SMERU Research Institute (SMERU), SURALA Suluh Karsa, J-PAL Southeast Asia, and Mentari Teachers Academy. The implemented project is referred to as MENGEJAR, short for “fun, grade appropriate, interactive mathematics” in Indonesian.

The MENGEJAR pilot program seeks to enhance the competency of mathematics teachers through training on the integration of technology into instruction and the implementation of higher-order thinking skills (HOTS)-oriented teaching. SMERU’s role in this program encompassed implementing trainings and monitoring the pilot, which included 200 mathematics teachers from 100 public junior high schools across Central Java (Semarang City, Kabupaten Kendal, and Kabupaten Tegal)and DKI Jakarta.

The MENGEJAR program ran for one year during the 2022–2023 academic year. To assess the program's impact, the team undertook research throughout its implementation. The dissemination of the MENGEJAR program research aims to provide information and recommendations to relevant stakeholders.

This dissemination aims to foster constructive discussions, debates, and feedback on the research findings, with the ultimate goal of accelerating improvements in learning quality, particularly in mathematics, for the future.
