This year, Indonesia celebrates its 80th anniversary. Along with this maturity, the commitment to advancing people's welfare continues, even as challenges persist.
SMERU remains committed to promoting evidence-based and inclusive public policies. One of our latest studies looks at how the climate crisis is affecting vulnerable groups in Jakarta and Bekasi, while also highlighting adaptive solutions proposed by local communities. We hope these insights can inspire advocacy and policies that truly respond to people's needs.
We also recommend two SMERU research publications. The first is a report highlighting the challenges children with disabilities face in accessing basic services such as education, health, nutrition, water and sanitation, and social protection. The second is a book chapter that discusses how President Joko Widodo’s administration repackaged social assistance programs from the previous government, expanding their reach significantly.
These topics highlight the importance of understanding the experiences and perspectives of vulnerable groups more deeply. Looking to enrich your qualitative research? Don't miss the Photo Elicitation Training with SMERU Learning Centre on 10 September 2025. Learn how visual media can bring out deeper insights, particularly in research involving children.
