Hening Wikan Sawiji
Wikan is a junior qualitative researcher. Her main research area is political economy with specialization in gender, environment, and civil society issues. She is responsible for various stages of the research process, including preparing research proposals, conducting data collection and analysis, and preparing research output. Currently, she is conducting a review of policies related to the renewable energy sector to develop a stimulus package for low carbon development in Indonesia.
Prior to joining SMERU, Wikan worked as a junior researcher for the Research Centre for Politics and Government (PolGov) of Universitas Gadjah Mada. She was involved in a study on “Women's Collective Action and the Village Law in Indonesia”, a research collaboration between Universitas Gadjah Mada, University of Melbourne, and MAMPU Program.
In 2010, Wikan became the youngest medalist in the Indonesian Science Project Olympiad (ISPO) for her research on waste management. She also completed her undergraduate study as The Best Graduate of the Department of Politics and Government. In 2020, her article titled "There's More to Fashion than Vogue: Strategi Fashion Revolution Indonesia dan Isu Kualitas Hidup Buruh [There's More to Fashion than Vogue: Indonesia’s Fashion Revolution Strategy and Laborers’ Quality of Life Issues]" was published by the Center for Research and Development of Social Welfare Services (B2P3KS) of the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, in Jurnal Penelitian Kesejahteraan Sosial [Journal of Social Welfare Research].
