Nawala SMERU May/XVII/2024

Improving the quality of basic education remains one of Indonesia’s most pressing agendas. SMERU recognizes the significance and is firmly committed to supporting these efforts. This includes conducting analysis of data from the National Assessment and the Indonesian Madrasah Competency Assessment. This analysis will shed light on the performance of Indonesian students in literacy and numeracy, along with their acquisition of 21st-century skills.

To commemorate National Education Day, we released a video that highlights the takeaways and recommendations from a RISE Programme in Indonesia study, Stories of Beginning Teachers. This study chronicles the experiences of beginning teachers during their formative years, shedding light on the challenges they encounter and the gaps in teacher management policies.

To further enrich your knowledge, we recommend two thought-provoking readings stemming from SMERU's research. The first is an academic journal article examining participatory village governance. It draws insights from a field study conducted to monitor the implementation of the Village Law. The second is an article in the Kompas newspaper that cites SMERU’s study on student loans for students in Indonesia.

In June, SMERU will host two Forum Kajian Pembangunan seminars on the social aspects of marine protected areas and a just energy transition. Follow our social media for the official announcement of event dates.

Thank you for keeping up with SMERU’s research and activities.
