Impact of COVID-19 on Employment: Designing Indonesia's Economic Recovery Strategy

Friday, July 10, 2020

(This webinar is in Bahasa Indonesia only)

The economic crisis triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic has affected the employment situations in Indonesia. The implementation of the Large-Scale Social Restrictions policy in a number of regions in Indonesia to contain the spread of the virus has implications for the temporary break in social and economic activities of the community. The cessation of production activities has implications for the declining rate of economic growth in Indonesia. From the business perspective, the cessation of production activities greatly affects companies’ cash flow and hence the temporary layoff of a large number of employees and even termination of employment in effort to minimize the company's operational costs. Therefore, the right strategies and policies are needed to overcome the increase in unemployment and accelerate the process of national economic recovery.

In order to enrich policy discourse related to efforts to reduce unemployment and to recover national economic situation, The SMERU Research Institute held a webinar on "The Impact of COVID-19 on Employment: Designing Indonesia's Economic Recovery Strategy".
