Just Energy Transition in Indonesia: Enhancing the Role of Local Governments

Wednesday, June 26, 2024

The Indonesian government has set a target of reducing emissions by 31.89% independently and 43.20% with international support, which is expected to be in line with the vision of Net Zero Emissions by 2050. The role of local governments has become crucial following the enactment of Presidential Regulation No. 11 of 2023, which provides local governments with additional authority in managing new and renewable energy.

How can the role of local governments be maximized in driving the energy transition? How can local governments strengthen their capacity to facilitate a just energy transition?
