The Indonesian government has set a target of reducing emissions by 31.89% independently and 43.20% with international support, which is expected to be in line with the vision of Net Zero Emissions by 2050. The role of local governments has become crucial following the enactment of Presidential Regulation No. 11 of 2023, which provides local governments with additional authority in managing new and renewable energy.
Thus, local governments have the space to participate in the energy transition agenda, and their ability to fill this role is key to a just energy transition. How can the role of local governments be maximized in driving the energy transition? How can local governments strengthen their capacity to facilitate a just energy transition?
