Poverty and Inequality Analysis

This paper reports on a participatory study on poverty in a village in the Kabupaten (District of) Aceh Timur in 2008. Gampong Cahya is a village community almost entirely reliant on agriculture and thus highly vulnerable to economic and environmental shifts such as fuel price rises and agricultural pests.

The SMERU Research Institute underwent three critical transitions during 2014. First, the direct support from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) to SMERU was formally transferred to one of its programs, the Knowledge Sector Initiative (KSI).

As a follow-up to the working paper on ‘Multidimensional Child Poverty for Children Under-5 Years Old’, this study provides an update and extends the analysis of children suffering multiple deprivations. This quantitative analysis is also able to further develop an Indonesian specific Multiple Overlapping Deprivations Approach (MODA), initiated by UNICEF.
