Among the countries reviewed in this volume, only Indonesia has not engaged in major reforms of its food subsidy program, at least until recently. Its flagship food subsidy program Rastra, formerly Raskin (Rice for the Poor), has made some improvements in delivery, but its overall performance continues to be limited. As such, some rethinking of the business model as well as the form of transfers provided is overdue.

Agricultural export booms and busts have the potential to enrich or devastate rural households in developing countries. While the aggregate revenue gain depends on global prices and local supply response, little is known about how this revenue diffuses within the local economy. This paper demonstrates how resource revenue is distributed within the local economy during an agricultural export boom and bust.
Unpaid care work which is commonly performed by women have not yet been recognized as production activities. Meanwhile, care work often limits women from having equal working opportunities as men and creates multiple burdens for women that potentially reduce the quality of care they provide.
