About

Farez is a quantitative researcher specializing in spatial econometrics and applied economics, with a focus on labor, environmental, and transportation issues. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degree in economics from Universitas Gadjah Mada. His master’s thesis examined the distributional effects of minimum wages on household food security, while his undergraduate thesis explored the determinants of attending Islamic-based schools (madrasah).

He is experienced in working with major Indonesian datasets, including the National Socioeconomic Survey (Susenas), National Labor Force Survey (Sakernas), Village Potential Statistics (Podes), and various spatial data sources.

Farez joined SMERU as a research assistant in 2021, became a junior quantitative researcher in 2022, and was promoted to quantitative researcher in 2026. He has represented SMERU as a speaker at the Development Study Forum (FKP), a presenter at the SIBR 2025 Conference on Interdisciplinary Business & Economics Research in Osaka and the 20th Economic Association of East Asia International Conference in Manila, and a participant in the 6th Annual Intensive Course Program in Urban, Transport, and Environmental Economics, organized by Universitas Indonesia and Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
