SMERU’s initiation to provide research-based evidence to this policy discourse is also motivated by direct communication with several e-commerce companies that approach SMERU for commissioning study on measuring the social impact of their operations, as well as interaction with various startup companies.

The abundance of small enterprises in developing countries has led to debates regarding the role that of entrepreneurial skill in business performance. Analyses of the skills and characteristics important for success can inform entrepreneurship training programs or educational curricula designed to increase the number of successful entrepreneurs.

Widjajanti Isdijoso, Deputy Director of the SMERU Research Institute for Research and Outreach, spoke at the International Conference on "Linking Social Protection to Sustainable Livelihoods: A Way Forward for Indonesia" organized by Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas,DFAT Australia, and MAHKOTA.

The SMERU Research Institute sadly lost Dr. Joan Hardjono (82 years), a member of Trustees and Advisors of Yayasan SMERU, who passed away in Jakarta on Monday, 13 May 2019.

On 9 May 9 2019 the SMERU Research Institute and the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Australia conducted an audience visit to Dr. Darmawan Prasodjo, Deputy I of Presidential Chief of Staff, at the Presidential Staff Office (KSP).
