The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has disrupted people’s lives in an unprecedented way. In response to this phenomenon, SMERU conducted studies to examine the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the socio-economic conditions in Indonesia, particularly in relation to poverty and human development.

One of the strategies to address the issue of out-of-school children (OOSC) is providing education assistance for children from underprivileged families through the Smart Indonesia Program (Program Indonesia Pintar/PIP). Because the number of OOSC is still high, PIP needs to be strengthened, both in the planning and execution, to boost the program’s effectiveness in reaching as many OOSC as possible.
