This infographic, titled "It Takes Two to Share the Load", highlights the gap between social norms and actual behavior regarding men’s involvement in unpaid care work. Findings from SMERU’s research, “Understanding Social Norms Related to Unpaid Care Work”, show that while 80% of men believe doing care work is normal, only a few actually participate.
The research also reveals that men are more inclined to take part in care work when they see other men doing the same. This infographic calls for normalizing such behavior by encouraging open discussions about care work in various community settings, such as at home, during social gatherings, on campus forums, and in religious events. The central message is that normalizing men’s involvement in unpaid care work can be initiated by normalizing conversations about it in the community, hence the tagline: "Talk about it. Normalize it."
