The book is written by Dr. Zulfan Tadjoeddin (Senior Lecturer, Western Sydney University) and Prof. Anis Chowdhury (Adjunct Professor, Dean's Unit School of Social Sciences & Psychology).

On 3 July 2018 the RISE Program in Indonesia (RISE), in cooperation with the Research and Development Board of the Indonesian Ministry of Education and Culture (Balitbang Kemdikbud), held a Seminar on "RISE Update Program in Indonesia" at the Graha 1 Meeting Room, Building A, 2nd Floor, Ministry of Education and Culture Office, Jl. Jenderal Sudirman, Senayan, Central Jakarta.

The forum was aimed at facilitating a policy dialog as well as an exchange of information about good practices and experiences between policymakers, researchers, development partners, and other stakeholders. Through this forum, it is expected that relevant stakeholders can get inputs to inclusive policy formulation and economic development, especially for South Sulawesi.

The seminar is generally aimed at consolidating the results of socioeconomic research in South Sulawesi related to poverty and inequality reduction as well as regional development.

When President Jokowi took the office at the end of 2014, Indonesia was facing the problem of stagnating poverty and inequality reduction. He quickly introduced several initiatives to address these problems, mainly in the form of cards which gave the poor access to education and health services as well as food and cash transfer, and grants for villages as mandated by the Village Law.
